Six Little Skirts

This was a happy project at our house the other day.  Wednesdays at my house is crafty club with six, sometimes seven girls.  This skirt is from the ever-creative designer liesl from Oliver + S patterns.  She has generously provided this free pattern. Uninterrupted, you can make this skirt in about a half hour. Having gone fabric shopping the previous week, the girls were so eager to sew their skirts. One by one, they sat on my lap, and I took charge of the foot pedal, and they did most of the rest of the work. It was magical. They were quiet, serious and set on doing their work. They pushed the elastic through the casing, they turned the hem, they pressed the seams open. Afterward, they all lined up for this picture. The pride they felt was so evident. I sent them home twirling and happy.

What a wonderful project. I bet they had so much fun. I find it easier to teach other peoples children than my own, I seem to have more patience with them.

The skirts look lovely, awesome colours.

Sounds like the girls had a great time with beautiful results! I think it’s great that you have a crafting day for the kids… I’m sure you’re inspiring some future crafters :)

Wow…thanks for stopping by! I’ve made my daughter about 5 of these skirts and she tells everyone about this pattern. She times me to see how quickly I can make one and each time she proclaims it’s a ‘New World Record’! Thanks for this great pattern.

    Oh, Tina–

I covet those! Look how beautiful! And how sweet a scene it must have been to see all of them working away, then spinning and whirling around. Thanks for sharing. I hope to be brave enough to try sewing something other than doll pillowcases!
